Straight out of Chicago, Illinois is the Clover Club Bottling Company. I am here today to review their root beer. I purchased it at Straub's Fine Grocers in St. Louis, Missouri. The bottle has a picture of the Old Water Tower and the John Hancock Tower. It was sweetened with high fructose corn syrup and/or sugar.
This was a rather average root beer. It has a true root beer flavor that I like. However is quite sweet - it has a syrupy flavor to it. My wife felt it tasted kind of fruity, which she didn't like. The carbonation was almost flat and there wasn't much of a foamy head. So while I would spend my money elsewhere next time, it still tasted good, and might be worth a second opinion. Anthony over at Anthony's Root Beer Barrel gave it a 91 out of 100, so this root beer does indeed have an audience.
Where to Buy
I purchased mine at Straub's Fine Grocers in St. Louis, MO. I am sure you can find it in stores in the Chicagoland area where the drink originated.
For a great selection of glass bottled root beer check out the Old 52 General Store. They carry over 300 varieties of glass bottled soda. Their physical store is located in Sabin, Minnesota.
