In my area of Michigan, there are u-pick farms a plenty. But in Orange County, California they are a little harder to come by. On a recent visit there, I check to see if there were u-pick farms or farm stands I could go to. The only one I found close enough by was Tanaka Farms in Irvine, California. When I was there in mid-Febrarury, they had their farm stand open, along with a section of u-pick strawberries. The strawberries were all in containers in front of the farm stand. This should make it easier for people to pick them.
In March, they start their strawberry tours. This includes a tour of the farm and a chance to pick some berries. They also have the same thing for watermelons and pumpkins. First farm I have that has a watermelon operation like that. They also have a CSA program. You pay either $20 or $30 a week and receive a box full of produce. They have a blog, telling you what you might be getting each week.
