Visit to Ann Arbor Farmer’s Market – 5/5/10

(Last Updated On: May 5, 2010)

Ann Arbor Farmer's Market Today was the first Wednesday of the year for the Ann Arbor Farmer’s Market. I like to go on Wednesdays because it is less crowded and because I usually go to the farmer’s market in Saline on Saturdays. Today the market was full of flowers to purchase as well as vegetable plants. I give props to several vendors for making attractive signs for their vegetable plants. There were plenty of choices, so you could shop around. I bought three Green Goliath broccoli plants from Frog Holler. The broccoli I grew from seed did not do well, I only ended up with 2 small plants, which is why I bought the plants. Both Kapnick Orchards and Wasem’s Fruit Farm had apple cider, bags of apples, and baked goods available for sale. I choose a quart of Wasem’s apple cider as it one of my favorites and it reminds me of my apple picking trips there in the fall.

Also at the market I found several vendors selling spinach and asparagus, which are in full season right now. That was pretty much it in the way of vegetables. We are still a couple weeks from starting to see the cool season crops like broccoli and peas from appearing at the market.
