The Red Haven peach - the standard that every peach in the midwest is judged by. A lot of people are asking the question will there be any this year and if so when? The early spring weather in March, combined with several freezes in April has devastated the peach crop in Michigan and other Midwestern states. However there are still peaches available, just not in the quantities we normally get. Red Haven peaches are usually available at the beginning of August. But what wasn't destroyed is now coming early this year. Here we are just a little bit passed the middle point of July and farms are announcing they are harvesting their Red Haven peaches. So if you want to get your hands on this favorite peach of so many, then you need to act now. Check your favorite farm source, farmer's market, or local grocery store this weekend! If you are looking to pick them yourself, you will need to call ahead. Most farms don't have large enough crops for u-pick this year and what they do have is high up on the trees.
