Some people see Monterey jack cheese as a pretty flavorless cheese that needs the help of peppers or Colby to make it worth wild. However a good Monterey jack does posses it’s own unique flavor. One example of a good Jack cheese is the one made by Maple Leaf. They have been in the cheesemaking business in Monroe, Wisconsin since 1910, with master cheesemaker Jeff Wideman leading the charge. This cheese tasted like what a Jack cheese should. Good Monterey Jack should have a buttery flavor and this one does. Like with all cheeses I recommend eating them at room temperature. This seems to be especially true with this cheese, as the flavor is much better when the cheese is not sliced directly from the fridge.
I first discovered it at a Meijer store in Ann Arbor, Michigan. It is on sale every so often, so that is when I buy it. You can also purchase the cheese directly from the company.
