Time to do what I do for each big holiday and guide you to what you can pick up at Costco for your Easter brunch or dinner.
We got ham, lamb, and will even talk a little duck (quack, quack)
Costco Ham Prices 2018
What does it cost for ham at Costco? Costco offers two options for your Easter ham. Which one will you choose? Does Costco offer boneless hams? Does Costco offer spiral sliced hams? All these questions will be answered below.
Kirkland Spiral Sliced Ham | $1.99/lb with $1 off per ham through 4/1 | 26159
This is your standard spiral sliced ham wrapped in bright red foil.
This year you can get $1 off per ham that you buy through Easter.
The pros of buying a spiral ham is that it is has already been sliced for you, making it easier to carve, which is especially good for those doubting their carving skills. The downside can be that the ham can dry out easily – who wants stringy dry ham?
Check out my post on how to keep a spiral ham from drying out and take the con out of this ham option.
I usually don’t go for spiral hams when buying a ham at most conventional grocery stores, since you do end up paying more for the service of the ham being spiraled for ya. Since Costco only offers us two choices and this is the cheapest option, I would be more opt to go for it, but the ham I normally buy is…
Kirkland Master Carve Applewood Smoked Half Ham | $2.69/lb | 46055 | Read my full review
If I get an applewood or cherrywood smoked ham, I am always going to go for it, over the hickory smoked. Everyday and twice on Sunday! I really prefer the taste of meats smoked with those mediums, especially cherrywood.
As the name suggests, everyone who carves this ham is a master carver. Why? Because there is no bone. You simply get out your longest knife and slice right through it.
Not Your Grandma’s Boneless Ham
This ham is not your standard boneless ham. Most boneless hams are pieces of ham that are rolled up into an unnatural log shape. The Master Carve ham is what a boneless ham should be looking like.
Back in the day, this use to be a full ham. But Costco decided to cut them and half and sell them this way. You can just by two halves if you need more ham – which I have done before and I glazed them with 2 different glazes.
The ham use to also come with a red currant glaze, but Costco yanked them out when they started selling the half hams. I know some people are disappointed in that but I think it’s good opportunity to make your own glaze that will be tastier and have only ingredients you can pronounce.
The downside is that I do miss having the bone for soups. I do enjoy that everything you are paying for it usable meat.
Costco Lamb Prices 2018
Are you more of a lamb person than a ham person for Easter. I got that covered for you as well. What does it cost for lamb at Costco?
Boneless Lamb Leg | $5.49/lb | 18030
Lamb is the underdog of the Easter dinner – if you have been following the NCAA Tournament this year you know that underdogs are all the rage right now.
While there are definitely lamb families out there but in the U.S. we prefer pork. According to a NY Times report, Americans consume an average of 50 pounds of pork a year to under 1 pound of lamb a year.
I will be the first to admit I haven’t done much with lamb myself. My excuse, they are just too cute!!!!
I don’t have much expertise in cooking them, so I want to turn you over to Food52 for their recipe on how to cook a leg of lamb with a garlic sauce.
Loin Lamb Chops | $7.99/lb
I have had lamb chops before. I actually wrote a post back in 2013 on the different type of lamb chops. If you want a good recipe I recommend this one from Food 52 – Lamb Loin Chops with Lemon Mint Salsa Verde and Flageolets
Maple Leaf Roasted 1/2 Duck | $14.99 ($8.57/lb) | 10658
Maybe you don’t want to do either ham or lamb. Well duck is an option as well. Costco sells a half duck for $14.99. That works out to being $8.57 per pound.
The duck is from Maple Leaf Farms, which has been in the poultry game for 60 years. The breed they use is the White Pekin selected for it’s tender, mild meat.
The half duck has already been cooked, so you just need to reheat it.
