This is part of a series of posts on tools that have made my life in the kitchen easier and more productive.
When I started to make a lot of my own foods from scratch, one of the things I really wanted to try was ice cream. I got my chance when I was able to pick up the Cuisinart 1-Β½-Quart Automatic Ice Cream Maker. The way it works is it comes with a bowl that contains a liquid that you place into your freezer. When you can shake the bowl and hear nothing then your ready to make ice cream (I usually give the bowl 24 hours for this). Then you take the bowl lock it on the base, attach the mixing arm, and the top and start it up! You pour your ice cream mixture through the opening on top. The opening also gives you a way to add mix-ins like chocolate chips or nuts during the churning process. It typically takes about 20-30 minutes to make a batch. The machine comes with an instruction booklet with recipe in it, but I haven't found those recipes to be very good. This ice cream maker has never let me down and I would recommend it for anyone looking to churn some of their own sweet treats.
