    Gluten Free Certified Granola Bars

    Published: Aug 10, 2018 · Modified: Aug 21, 2018 by Eric Samuelson

Raise your hand if you grew up with granola bars?

I am sure a lot of you did. They are an easy snack that you can throw in a lunch bag. A parent can easily toss a granola bar back to the kids in the backseat during a road trip.

With the rise of gluten intolerance going on in our country, it seems more and more people are trying to avoid it in their diets. Tossing a granola bar to the kids in back, may not be as easy as it once was.

As part of our Hit the Road Snackin' series, we want to give a hand to those parents who are looking for snacks that they can safely get their children or consume themselves. So today we are talking about the gluten free granola bars from Bakery on Main.

    Who is Bakery on Main?

Bakery on Main got it's beginnings as a small bakery of a natural foods market on Main Street in Glastonbury, Connecticut (Have you been?). Customers would come in and talk about their struggles with Celiac disease. It inspired them to want to reach out to provide for these people who could not eat the baked goods most bakery were turning out. This led them to where they are today with a new 111,000 square foot facility dedicated to being gluten free so people with Celiac can safely eat their products with no worries.

Bakery on Main is Certified Gluten Free, this means a third party inspector oversees them and see that they are gluten free. You can read more about what it means to be Certified Gluten Free by visiting the GFCO website.

I received four different flavors of granola bars to try from Bakery on Main.

I wanted to see how the bars differ from some of the other granola bars on the market as it comes to nutrition. The Bakery on Main bars consistently contain more protein and dietary fiber than the most commonly sold brands. That I am totally down with and excited about.

Here are the flavors that I got a chance to try. All the bars had a good texture, soft, not dry. I am not a fan of granola bars that are too hard, nor ones that are so light you feel like your eating styrofoam.

Look at all those delicious chocolate chips on top. Each bar contains 4g of protein, 4g of fiber, and 8g of sugar. No wheat or gluten.

    Double Chocolate

Right off the bat I knew this would be my favorite. The more chocolate the better, so I am for doubling the chocolate every day and twice on Sunday. As compared to most other chocolate chip granola bars I have had before this packed more of a chocolate flavor. I don't think they were too shy with the chocolate.

A straight forward bar that will appeal to everyone.

    Oat & Honey

This is your basic flavor. Nothing that sets the world on fire, but a solid bar.

Buy Oat & Honey Granola Bars

My wife's favorite flavor. Say peanut butter and you got her attention every time.

    Peanut Butter & Chocolate

This was definitely my wife's favorite. She loves peanut butter. I  myself am not as much of a fan, but I am good with it when it is accompanied by chocolate.

Get Peanut Butter & Chocolate Bars

The taste of the classic PB&J sandwich in an easy to pack snack.

    Peanut Butter & Jelly

Probably my least favorite bar of the bunch. Mainly because again I need chocolate with my peanut butter. For those that are PB&J fans you'll want to give these a try. The flavor of the jelly used is Concord Grape - one of the most popular flavors to pair up with peanut butter.

    A Sweet Snack

Enjoy these bars in moderation. They do still contain sugar, so I consider them more of a sweet treat or something to take along when going on a hike. One of the best things about traveling is finding new places to explore and having a snack in your car that can provide you with some energy for exploring is a good idea.

There Is Way More From Bakery on Main

To say that Bakery on Main has a lot of products would be understatement. They have a ton of products. I was fortunate enough to be send a huge sampling of them along with some swag in the form of a t-shirt and tote bag. Even thought I decided to decided to devote this post to their granola bars I felt there other products need to make a cameo as well, at least in picture form.

For me this is the product that introduced me to Bakery on Main. I first spotted at my local Kroger store. And it was on sale so I gave it a try. It's really good granola. Lots of bunches, not lots of crumps. I love that there are chia seeds in it.

You can tell this granola is different just by looking at it. There are little "bowl" inside. They are multigrain and bean crisps. They contain actual Navy beans. How cool is that!

Certified organic sprouted grain granola. Perfect for putting on top of yogurt.

The Instant Oatmeal on the left contains ancient grains quinoa & amaranth. It would be great to bring along on a road trip as you can use the hotel coffee maker to heat up water to make it. My son was super excited to give it a try when he spotted in the box.

Oatmeal that is easy to make and eat right out of the cup. The unique thing about these oats is that they contain probiotic cultures. My wife absolutely loved this oatmeal. A really good option for a hotel room as you don't even need a container, it comes in one.

    Road Trip Story

One of the best parts of taking a road trip and going new places is seeing your kids get into it. This summer we got to do some exploring along the Great River Road in both Minnesota and Wisconsin. This is the road that run along the Mississippi River. There were plenty of bluffs to go up to get a view of the river. My daughter really loved seeing so far away. They had a map nearby with a list of buildings on it and she got a kick out of finding the buildings from the map from far away.

Thanks for this informative post! We just found out my son has celiac and it is overwhelming! I was so happy to read that some of these products are available at Kroger! That is where we do most of our shopping:)

You are very welcome! Not all their products are at Kroger but some of them, mainly the granola. I think it depends o what Kroger as well. The larger stores may have more inventory of Bakery on Main products.
