If you spend a day observing people's shopping carts at the grocery store, you are likely to find that a good portion of these people are buying some yogurt in one form or another. Yogurt is one of the most popular things to throw into a lunch box or bag or to eat at the breakfast table. There is such a wide arrange of choices available, I could spend a lifetime sharing them with you. I haven't reviewed any yogurt before on this site. I decided to give one brand of yogurt a try, see what kind of feedback I get. I recently discovered La Creme yogurt at a couple of my local grocery stores. I bought some for the first time yesterday. They offer four flavors: strawberry, raspberry, vanilla, and peach. Strawberry was the obvious choice for me to buy. It has always been my favorite flavor of yogurt. I hardly ever eat anything else.
So what makes La Creme yogurt different? It contains real cream. This gives the yogurt an extremely creamy texture, unlike anything else I have tasted. It feels like you are eating pudding! The yogurt comes in a 4-pack, with the phrase "Real Cows, Real Dairy" appearing on the packaging. La Creme wants to produce a genuine yogurt product that doesn't taste fake. The yogurt has a great strawberry flavor that is sweet enough for my liking as well as having a bit of tanginess that I feel is lacking in the popular name brand yogurts.
As for the nutrition facts, I want to do a little comparison between this yogurt and Yoplait Original Strawberry. When it comes to yogurt, fat content and sugar are the two things I look at.
La Creme Strawberry Yogurt
Calories: 140
Total Fat: 5g
Saturated Fat: 3g (15% recommended daily intake)
Sugar: 18g
Yoplait Original Strawberry Yogurt
Calories: 170
Total Fat: 1.5g
Saturated Fat: 1g
Sugar: 26g
It's clear that La Creme has more fat than the Yoplait, but Yoplait has more sugar. Sugar vs. fat, which do you want to avoid more? In this case, I will opt for the higher fat option, as the flavor and texture of La Creme is way better than the Yoplait (or Dannon or any store brand I have had). The La Creme yogurt just seems more natural than the traditional brands. Just keep in mind if you are going to eat 15% of your saturated fat for the day in a container of yogurt, to eat some other low fat foods during the day.
