Meijer Gold Blood Orangeade

This is part of a series of posts on juices and unique drinks that I have come across. Everyone knows the Pepsis and Cokes of this world and many sites cover the wines and beers, but I am bringing to you the rest of the beverage world

Normally I do not review store brand drinks. But I decided to make an exception with the sparkling drinks by Meijer (under their Meijer Gold label). For those not familar with Meijer, they are a large chain of grocery/general merchandise stores that started in Michigan but can also be found in Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky, and Ohio. It is the store I do most of my shopping in because they have the lowest and best sale prices on my basic needs.

Meijer launched their Meijer Gold label in the last couple years. They have the store name on them, but they are meant to be high quality, premium products. This month they have their line of European sparking drinks on sale. They come in a 33.8 OZ glass bottle. I choose to try the Blood Orangeade first. The label gives the drinker some information on where this drink came from: “Handcrafted by the Geyer family in France’s Lorraine province, this original family recipe features a natural blood orange flavor for a uniquely refreshing taste.” Unlike most carbonated beverages, this one contains real juice. The amount is still low only 2%, but that juice is from blood oranges, which gives the drink it’s flavor.

3stars For me, I felt the carbonation was too much. So I actually enjoyed the drink better, two days after I opened it. It has a smooth blood orange flavor, that isn’t too sweet. It’s taste real, not artificial. If they went a little lighter on the carbonation, then we would have a real winner on our hands.
