Straight out of Chicago, Illinois is the Clover Club Bottling Company. I am here today to review their root beer. I purchased it at Straub’s Fine Grocers in St. Louis, Missouri. The bottle has a picture of the Old Water Tower and the John Hancock Tower. It was sweetened with high fructose corn syrup and/or sugar.
This was a rather average root beer. It has a true root beer flavor that I like. However is quite sweet – it has a syrupy flavor to it. My wife felt it tasted kind of fruity, which she didn’t like. The carbonation was almost flat and there wasn’t much of a foamy head. So while I would spend my money elsewhere next time, it still tasted good, and might be worth a second opinion. Anthony over at Anthony’s Root Beer Barrel gave it a 91 out of 100, so this root beer does indeed have an audience.
Where to Buy
I purchased mine at Straub’s Fine Grocers in St. Louis, MO. I am sure you can find it in stores in the Chicagoland area where the drink originated.
