Last year I learned about a new variety of pumpkin that I wanted to share with you. It's called Porcelain Doll. The reason why I am bringing it to your attention is that it's PINK! Yes a pink pumpkin. The seeds were available for the first time in the 2012 season. 2013 marks the second year for the pumpkin on the market place. Porcelain Doll is a hybrid variety that is orange on the inside. It is an edible variety that is sweet. You can use it for pies, soups, or whatever you would use pumpkin for. It was one of my favorite pumpkins that I baked in 2012. They are a good size to so you end up with a ton of pumpkin puree for all of your great pumpkin recipes and some to freezer for later (learn more about making pumpkin puree).
A nationwide campaign is going along with this pumpkin. A portion of the sale will go to a nonprofit organization called the Pink Pumpkin Patch. Their mission to get help fund research for breast cancer. So not only are you buying a pumpkin that will look good in your house and in your tummy, you are also supporting cancer research. It's a win-win!
So where do I find one of these beauties? I have a list of retailers as well as a list of growers organized by state. Check with these growers to see about availability. You can also grow them yourself (of course you will have to wait until next year). Seeds can be purchased from companies such as NE Seed or on Amazon.com. If you do come across one, you might want to accept a decorating challenge that a fellow blogger who is hosting.
Here is a list of retailers for 2013 (I do not have info on whether they will be in all locations, so check with your individual store). There are a lot more stores in 2013, including Whole Foods Market.

Thanks for posting the link on your site. I will mention your decorating challenge on my blog. I don't think they are widely available yet, but I expect that to change soon as we are now in October. Where did you buy yours?

I lucked up on your website. Its the most imformative so far. Let me say THANK YOU for what you're doing. I had cervical cancer 20 years ago when it was a very silent killer. My mother is a survivor of lung cancer twice. My best friend is being checked & is thought to have IBC-the latest discovered breast cancer. I hope to join you in the future with this adventure of pink pumpkins. I'm always looking for ways to give back. Again THANK YOU!!!!!!!!! for what you are doing and the infomation.
