Ever struggled with how to pour from a mason jar without spilling? The Ergo Spout - the spout for a mason jar is your answer!
Ladies and gentlemen, I am about to change the way you pour things out of containers.
Now on the surface, that doesn't sound all that exciting.
But think about it. How often do we pour stuff? We pour pots of coffee in the morning. How does the maple syrup get on our pancakes and our dressing on our salad? Pouring.
What happens when we go to a restaurant and sit down for a our meal? A waiter or waitress pours us glasses of water.
Is there really a day that goes by where you don't pour something?
So yeah pouring is a big deal. So any innovations that take place in pouring is a big deal.
Here is an innovation for you. It's called the Ergo Spout. And ever since I have got one I have been "pouring like no one else" 🙂
What is the Ergo Spout?
The Ergo Spout is a dispenser with a handle that attaches to a mason jar.
You simply screw the spout onto any regular sized mouth mason jar (wide mouth not available at this time) and you instantly have a dispenser for pouring whatever you like.
The handle is ergonomic, hence the name. It fits really comfortable in my hand. As they say it fits like a glove!
When you want to dispense something you simply tip your jar and push down on the top of the spout. How much liquid comes out depends on how hard you push down, so you can pour fast or slow.
A Brief History of the Ergo Spout
Ergo Spout is the passion project of Bryce and Kate. This husband and wife team live in the suburbs of Salt Lake City.
In July of 2018, they launched a kickstarter to raise funds to manufacture the Ergo Spout. It only took them 14 hours to reach their $10,000 goal (source). That number would eventually reach over $40,000!!! I would say that was a successful campaign.
This didn't just happen overnight. Bryce and Kate put in the work of building a community through the farmer's market scene, home shows, and facebook ads (source). I discovered them via the facebook group for Tastemaker conference, a conference for food bloggers.
The idea for Ergo Spout began when Kate had chipped her vintage syrup dispenser. She thought she needed a mason jar that she could put a dispenser on. Not being able to find one, she decided to create one. And here we are today.
What to use the Ergo Spout For?
The Ergo Spout has many uses. Let me share with you a few I have come up with.
Water Pitcher
You can simply use it as water pitcher. I use it every week when I have guests over. The best part is you can just use jars you already have, you don't have to make room for a water pitcher. That is what I call a multi-tasker and a spacer saver.
Lemonade
Or it's great to make lemonade in. Put water, lemon juice, and sugar in a jar. Shake it up and your ready to pour out some lemonade.
Syrup Dispenser
This is what started it all, so of course I use the Ergo Spout as a syrup dispenser. In order to save money we like to buy maple syrup in a big jug. I don't like my kids pouring it out of the big jug. My wife likes her syrup warm too. So we can put what we want for that meal into a jar, warm it up, and attach the Ergo Spout and we are ready to dispense some syrup.
Bulk Buys
Anything that you buy from Costco or Sam's Club that pour out of a container would be great to use with the Ergo Spout. Maple syrup, honey, salad dressing, BBQ sauce, and the list goes on. Like I was saying with the syrup sometimes you want the savings of a big container but you don't want to necessarily use that container to pour from.
Batter Dispenser
The Ergo Spout is the perfect thing to use to dispense batter without spilling. It's super easy to open the spot and pour out the batter and close it back up without a drop spilling.
We made the dough for popover and used the Ergo Spout to evenly fill the popover pan. It was the first time we din't spill any of the dough while filling the pan.
Saucing it up at the Table
Serving a sauce with your meal? Put the sauce in the mason jar, slap on the Ergo Spout, and you can easily pour it on right at the table. That is especially nice when you have those that want a lot and those that want a little.
I can image it now, some fresh chicken off the grill with a jar full freshly made pesto ready to go on top.
Where to Buy the Ergo Spout
So where do you pick up this wonderful invention?
You can head on over to the Ergo Spout website and pick one (or more) out in the these fun colors - barn red, classic white, vintage blue and foliage green

I love all 3 of mine. Mix flavored water in half gallon jar. Waiting on the wide mouth now.

That's awesome. Are they the same color or different colors? Having a wide mouth would be awesome as well.
