While our produce sections are always stocked with things like oranges, apples, blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, bananas, etc all year round (even if they are from other countries), persimmons only find their way into the supermarket at a certain time of year. What time of year is that?
California Grown Persimmons
Persimmons from California start are available in limited quantities in late September. But it doesn't start to pick up until we get closer to Halloween. Then in November and December things are really rocking and they are widely available. Then they disappear along with all the Christmas decorations. Until.....
Imported Persimmons
The imported persimmons arrive in limited quantities in April through June, but you will never see them widely available during that time. So really the best time to enjoy them is during the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons.
