Cheese Review – Tillamook Medium Cheddar Cheese

    Published: Feb 22, 2011 · Modified: Mar 15, 2020 by Eric Samuelson

Tillamook Medium CheddarPrice: $7.99 for a 2 lb baby loaf
    Strength: Medium
Purchased At: Stater Bros (Lake Forest, CA)
    Would Buy Again: Yes

I have seen Tillamook cheese in stories in Michigan on many occasions. I have heard many a great thing about it. I heard one person say it was the best cheese you could buy in bar form. Yet I never got around to trying it. Until I came out to California and found a 2 lb baby loaf on sale at a Stater Bros store for $7.99, (that's about $4 a pound!). I have never seen such a great deal on this cheese. In Michigan, I usually find that the 8 oz bar was selling for over $4 a piece! Maybe it's the closer proximity to Tillamook's home in Oregon or the fact that I haven't seen the baby loafs at home before.

Tillamook Medium Cheddar is an award winning cheddar. It was selected as the World's Best Medium Cheddar at the 2010 World Championship Cheese Contest. That award is much deserved. This cheddar is absolutely delicious. It is a creamy, nutty, and rich cheddar. I agree with what I heard, this is one of the best block cheeses available. Way better than any store brand or anything Kraft could come up with. I wish I had a cooler with me to pack a bunch to take home. The sale price I paid was a steal. I found several other grocery stories in the area with similar prices and sales.
