    📜 History

This apple was developed by the cooperative breeding program of the Indiana, Illinois, and New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Stations. The apple is a cross between a Golden Delicious and an unnamed apple variety. It was released in 1993. It's grown at many orchards throughout the country from east coast to west coast.

The trees productivity and the apple's ability to last a while make it a great choice for apple orchards. It's never taken off though as an apple that is sold at the grocery store.

    👓 Appearance

The apple has a greenish yellow appearance. It depends on their age or when they are picked. I have seen some they are picked mostly green. They will develop a yellow hue over time.

Sometimes you will find apples that have a red blush on them. Most often than not that hasn't been my experience.

It's not what I people would consider supermarket pretty. It has some inconsistency in color and has some rusting sometimes. There are more attractive yellow apples out there.

    ⭐ Ratings

Here is what I thought when I had this apple for the first time.

I am a big fan of this apple. It's firm with good flavor that is balanced between being sweet and tart. Last year I bought a big box of them and enjoyed them for over a month. I kept some of them in the fridge as space would allow for.

Is it better than Golden Delicious? I would say so for sure. I do like another yellow apple better than is available earlier in the season, the Suncrisp apple. I think that when is even more flavorful. You can never go wrong when buying Gold Rush.

Eating Tips - If you like a more tart apple, choose Gold Rush that are more green. If you like a more sweet apple, then choose ones that are yellow in color. If they are too tart for you at first, allow them to set in the fridge for a few weeks, they will get sweeter in storage. GoldRush is often orange, an odd color for an apple but perfectly natural. It has a slight tendency to russet, like a Bosc pear. Neither color affects taste or texture. Excellent keeper. Flavor changes over storage time but always delicious (NOT like a Delicious!).
