Top Fruit Pick of the Month - Donut Nectarines
To me this list has to start off with the donut nectarine. You are going to be hard pressed to put a better piece of fruit in your mouth, whether it's this month or any month. These nectarines come in cute packaging that looks like your buying some actual donuts. I think I like these better, although it's hard to pass up a good maple bacon long john!
What donut nectarines offer is sweetness and intense flavor. My favorite kind of nectarine for sure, I have tried a ton of nectarines. They have a short season, so you should grab them up when you have a chance to try them.
The nectarines are yellow on the inside with dark red and red yellow hues on the outside. The pit is smaller than a standard nectarine, so you are getting more to bite into.

Right next to the donut nectarines at least in the store I was in were pluots or plumcots. They are the sweet combo of plum and apricot and they come in all sorts of colors and flavors. This dark purple/red one in the photo above is called a Plumogrante plumcot, not because it's related to a pomegranate but because of it's deep red color. Here is a better look at what they look like
This is one of the most flavorful pluots of the summer, so don't miss it. You will fall in love with pluots!

Rainier Cherries
July is the sweetest time of year for cherries. It's when you can get Rainier cherries, the sweet cherry that won't stain your hands or clothes. They come in a plastic clamshell containers at Trader Joe's. I found them right at the front of my Trader Joe's produce section.

Verry Cherry Plums
Speaking of cherries did you know you can cross a cherry with a plum and produce a cherry plum? Plums, peaches, nectarines, apricots, and cherries are all related and plant breeders have been having a field day making different crosses and seeing what fruit comes out.
The cherry plums is one of the best. They were out of my store when I got there, but I have seen them at other stores this July from people's Instagram posts. The fruit is red in color and yellow inside. The flavor is more plum than cherry, The fruit is super sweet with great flavor and a pit that is as small as a cherry pit, which means more fruit to enjoy.
Look for the "Verry Cherry" name. This is brand is one of the most widely seen brands of cherry plums, but you can find them under other names as well.
Grapes that have a flavor like strawberry? Sign me up. These Candy Snaps grapes may look on the small size but they are packing some serious flavor. They are firm and full of a strawberry gummy like flavor. It's like eating candy.
This variety also appears in the late summer as part of Grapery's Gum Drops line. They are just fantastic. The grape industry has seen huge chances in recent years with flavor finally being a priority for growers and I for one have been super thrilled to see it. You rarely ever saw a named variety in the store 10-15 years ago, so we have come along ways.
Lastly, I really don't think much about apples in July, but if you were to buy some apples you definitely could do worse than Cosmic Crisp. This apple stays crisp for quite a long time after harvest and I believe are a better option right now than Honeycrisp.
