I have to admit I have been a skeptic of beef bacon over the years. I didn't think I would like it as much as traditional bacon. Don't get me wrong, I love beef just as I do pork, just something made me think beef bacon was just a knockoff put on the world by anti-pork people.
The beef bacon I had seen in the stores never looked very appealing to me. When I saw a beef bacon option from Porter Road, I decided ok, let me give theirs a try. If I didn't like it I would probably swear off beef bacon for life!
Spoiler, I am writing this post today!
🥓 What is Beef Bacon?
Simply it's bacon made from beef? But from where on the cow is this beef coming from? About the same part as you would a pig, the belly. That is where you are going to have the fatty meat.
📋 Ingredients
The Porter Road Beef Bacon contains these ingredients:
- Beef
- Sea Salt
- Turbinado Sugar
- Celery Powder
Doesn't get an simpler than this. Very rare to find bacon with so few ingredients. The meat is the star of the show. It's quality alone will determine how good this bacon is. More on that in a moment.

🍳 How to Cook
Good news, if you have cooked bacon before there isn't anything you need to do differently. I most often cook my bacon in a cast iron pan.
💡 Tips - Always start bacon in a cold pan. That way the fat can start to render out and your bacon won't stick and burn. Also when the bacon releases easily it's ready to flip.
You can also cook it in the oven. This is what Porter Road recommends. Bake at 350°F for about 12 to 20 minutes. When your house starts to be permeated with the smell of bacon, that's when you need to be checking on it, so if it's crispy enough for you.

⭐ Review
Oh my goodness. The bacon from Porter Road is a winning in every way. It's a winner for flavor. It's a winner for texture. The thickness is what I like as well, it's not too thin. You get a meaty bite that has some crispiness to it as well. I would for sure buy this over and over again and now it makes me sing the praises for beef bacon.
Give Beef Bacon from Porter Road a try yourself! They also sell Beef Bacon Ends, that are just pieces of the bacon that are perfect to use in recipes. I love to pair them with Brussels sprouts. Yum!
