Episode 022 - Too Many Greens? Make Pesto!

    Published: Sep 19, 2022 · Modified: Apr 13, 2023 by Eric Samuelson

Hey everyone, before we launch into today's episode, I want to take a moment to thank this week's sponsor, Grapery. They are known for growing grapes with extraordinary flavor. In stores right now look for their grapes that taste just like Cotton Candy, their uniquely shaped Moon Drops grapes, and their fruity Gum Drops grapes.

In episode 022, learn how you can save excess spinach and/or arugula from the trash by making a simple to make yet delicious pesto.

    🛒 Before You Checkout

What you need to know before you checkout at the grocery store or market:

When you are shopping in the produce section of the store, look for any salad greens that have been marked down. Many stores will do this when the greens are getting close to their best by date.

This is a great way to save money on spinach, kale, or arugula to make pesto with. You can make a sizeable batch and freeze it for later use.

Just make sure to give the greens a once over. Do they look slimy at all? Are there any yellow leaves. If there appears to only be a few leaves that aren't perfect, if the price is right you should still get the greens and use them that night or the next day to make pesto.
