    🛒 Before You Checkout

    What you need to know before you checkout at the grocery store or market:

    Be careful to be reading signs and stickers when shopping for apples in the grocery store. In September, you can still find apples in the stores from far away places like New Zealand or Chile. This is the prime season for U.S. grown apples like Gala and Honeycrisp. So you should be buying domestic.

    In the late spring and summer months, when you do see apples from New Zealand, I often will buy those over any U.S. grown apples that are at that point, nine months or more removed from being harvested.
